One Billion Trees Produced

On September 26th, 2024 Coast to Coast Reforestation celebrated their 1 Billionth seedling produced—a huge accomplishment! Those trees were produced from forest product company relationships built by Silviculture Forester, Scott Formaniuk over the last couple of decades. Scott is seen in the center of the original C2C nursery owners photo and again with the current generation of C2C nursery owners.

Although Scott speaks to forest product companies and often tours their forestry operations, the essential work of our nurseries often goes unseen. These nurseries—primarily family-owned businesses—bring specialized expertise in seed handling, propagation, and operations that are all backed with significant infrastructure investments. Each nursery employs a larger team, making them community leaders in the regions they operate. Our family-oriented values of authenticity, flexibility, loyalty, and long-term commitment drive our mission to produce high-quality trees, supported by excellent logistics and customer service. Those same family-oriented values have become synonymous with the value provided by Coast to Coast Reforestation.

Since forestry records began in Alberta, nearly 2 billion seedlings have been produced and planted—a milestone Coast to Coast Reforestation is proud to be part of. At our 1 Billionth seedling celebration, Larry Lafleur, one of our founders, was honored for his contribution of 1.7 billion seedlings produced during his career.

What lies ahead? Expert speakers highlighted that the next billion trees will differ from the first, emphasizing the role of intensive silviculture and climate-smart practices that drive greater productivity and land stewardship for all stakeholders.

Please join us in celebrating the dedicated people, families, and communities behind this billion-seedling achievement. Seedling production is a labor-intensive, science-driven effort that supports countless products, jobs, and the preservation of our landscapes for future generations. Alberta’s forests are some of the world’s best managed—and continually improving—thanks to family-run nurseries rooted in the communities they serve.
